Summertime and Brevard

Long, hot days remind me of my childhood in Brevard. I walked to town in the morning to meet the Ecusta bus which took us to Camp Straus for swimming lessons. When I got back, I walked home, ate a bite of lunch, and then walked to Franklin Pool to spend the afternoon practicing and chatting with friends. Camp Straus and Franklin Pool were great places to meet up with friends. Late in the day when the pool was ready to close, I walked home with my sun-burned shoulders throbbing as I went. As long as the weather was clear and the swimming lessons lasted, the schedule didn't vary.

What a great childhood!

    Pat: On August 13,2011 Patricia and I were in Brevard and drove by Franklin Park. It looks even better today than it did years ago. Several young people were swimming and enjoying the pool. I wish I could say the same for Camp Straus. I'm really glad that the community has maintained Franklin Park. I'm sure that a new generation is busy making memories. Its to late now, but I wish Camp Straus had been made into a County Park and Golf Course. It would have been a wonderful place for Concerts, County Fairs and many other events. Life was much more simple when we grew up and hopefully some of it will be saved. Michael.
